A creative workshop designed for CET students by Sanja Mitrović, at the invitation of Jonathan Châtel
This workshop will introduce Mitrović’s methodology, with a focus on the interplay between the body and writing as coexistent and intersecting forms of political expression. Drawing on her current post-doctoral and artistic research into student protest movements in Serbia, "Autonomy of a Sleepless City" encourages reflection on gesture, written word, stillness, and collective presence as performative acts of dissent. Through a critical and affectively attuned lens, Mitrović examines how bodies carry histories, how silence can become a form of resistance, and how writing and performance converge in acts of protest. Centering the idea that protest is not only political, but also intimate, embodied and deeply performative, the workshop offers an invitation to explore theatre as a site for witnessing, amplification and poetic intervention in times of crisis. Participants will engage with a range of materials related to recent protest movements and investigate their translation into performative language. The workshop unfolds in several stages, combining observation and discussion, physical and vocal training, scenic writing, and improvisation. The process will culminate in theatrical interpretation and the development of a dramaturgical through-line, resulting in stage proposals to be shared in a public setting.
